"Men Shen, which means door gods, are gods able to prevent devils from going into home in traditiional Chinese fair tales. The word 'Men :Shen' first appears in Zheng Zuan's note to Li Ji Sang Da Ji, who was a scholar in Han Dynasty, in which he wrote, 'The emperors condole senior officials to show respect to door gods at funeral ceremonies'. At the the beginning, Men Shen is only an abstract concept. But in Han dynasty, Men Shen began to have specific names and images. People usually take such folk heroes as Yu Chi Gong and Qing Qiong or fair tales as the images of Men Shen. What's more, posting Men Shen to drive devils away becomes a custom.
