Gjallarhorn (Baldr)

The interest in the Norse gods has grown substantially in popularity from the emerging archeological finds, television shows, and Marvel movies. We are learning more about the Viking culture every day and people want more! We decided we wanted more as well - a playing card deck featuring a more authentic interpretation of the Norse gods. So, we went digging into the sagas and decided to create a deck based on the famous final battle of Ragnarök. Through that research, we discovered Dr. Jackson Crawford, Instructor of Nordic Studies and Nordic Program Coordinator at the University of Colorado Boulder and author of The Poetic Edda: Stories of the Norse Gods and Heroes and The Saga of the Volsungs: With the Saga of Ragnar Lothbrok and a wealth of knowledge on everything Viking. With Dr. Crawford's personal consulting and guidance for this project we were able to incorporate the correct, strict Old Norse names and descriptions for these mighty figures of legend, depictions so accurate to the original sources that Dr. Crawford has even suggested they be used in an academic environment! The outcome of all this work is a stunning deck that the gods themselves would be proud of - GJALLARHORN! What is GJALLARHORN? GJALLARHORN, or the Yelling Horn, is known by many as the horn wielded by Heimdallr to announce the coming of Ragnarök.When sounded, all of the players of the final battle will gather; Odin, Thor, Loki, Hel, Tyr, and many others.
