London, flagship of the British Empire. London, capital of the World under the rule of our very gracious Queen Victoria. My name is Edward Milligan, and I am what you could call a gentleman (...). Oh, according to someone who knows me, I possess other qualifiers; cheater, swindler, huckster, charmer... Because, I'm a card player. And not just any player! I am incomparable, elusive, victorious! I run and jump as well as I handle the cards, because often my opponents refuse to believe in my good fortune and often want to end the game by taking it out on me. They are mistaken, of course. Because I have a secret. My weapon, my magic power, is my card deck. Out of the ordinary, this game was specially made for me by a bit magical craftsman. Look at these cards, these fretwork patterns, with gold and silver arabesques, these floral lines and curves, these amazing figures. Ah, the figures disturb you? I can understand it; you were expecting heraldic portraits, weren't you? This is a classic, but nothing is ordinary in this game, which is like me. Symbols, this is the power of the mysteries of these cards! A majestic chryselephantine scepter enhanced with precious stones, for the King, a rose, as sweet as it is sharp, for the Lady, and, finally, a magnificent pistol with adjusted barrel and handle of rare essence, for the Jack. Admit it, you are under the spell too aren't you? The Victorian playing cards Obsidian deck is composed of fifty two cards and two jokers. The project main idea is to replace the traditional court cards by symbols: scepter for the king, rose for the queen and pistol for the jack. Other cards stays as usual. The colors are copper for the red and silver for the blacks. The background is black with a victorian pattern. The cards are mirrored so they look the same upside down with subtile differences.
