Even though America was discovered for Europeans by Christopher Columbus, it was named after another explorer named Amerigo Vespucci, because the first world map used Vespucci's name instead of Columbus' name. The Universalis Cosmographia was created in 1507 by German cartographer Martin Waldseemüller. This deck commemorates that age of exploration and the first world map. Design includes a full original set of court cards, original aces, back of card design and inside and outside tuck box design. Limited edition. Single print run. Gold foil included in the intricate tuck box design. Magellan is included because he completed what the others set out to do - circumnavigate the world. And Waldseemüller is included because his map changed history. The Jokers are the family coat of arms of our two main protagonists - Columbus and Vespucci. And the court cards are a beautiful re-rendering of the Aleseva standard court cards created by our artist Erik Suswanto.
