The traditional “Regensburg Playing Cards”—unique card designs that disappeared 150 years ago—have been revived. The project was created by the German company Carta Regina (Mark Erik Flöter and Simon Holmer) (Instagram). They brought the historical full-figure designs back to life, digitized the antique 18th-century artwork, and added a modern design with indices in all four corners for the convenience of both left- and right-handed players.
The 36-card deck was manufactured without plastic at a factory in Altenburg in 2022. The creators even participated in an exhibition at the Bavarian History Museum.
History is back at the card table!
